Peters' YouTube Partnership with Controversial GamerGater

‘MundaneMatt’ is well known for online commentary allegedly anti-woman and racially insensitive

Axanar producer Alec Peters told fans on Axanar: Confidential March 11 that he’s joining three other YouTube channels in a collaborative broadcasting effort. He didn’t mention one of them is infamous online as a GamerGater whose online commentary is considered anti-woman and racist.

Joining Forces

The online collaboration was scheduled to begin March 18 under the name Nerdcasters.com. Peters said his co-hosts will be:

  • The Popcast’s Shane and Brian. Brian has appeared on an Axanar livestream before.
  • Egotastic Funtime‘s J.P. Poole, who has guested on Axanar livestreams before.
  • 3 Buck Theater‘s Matt Jarbo, who also broadcasts as MundaneMatt on YouTube and has been criticized as a #GamerGater, an alt-right commentator and alleged racist. His commentary has been the focus of many outraged YouTubers.
Controversial YouTuber Matt Jarbo, aka MundaneMatt, also of 3 Buck Theater.

Controversial Partner

Jarbo’s anti-woman views appear to clash directly with Peters’ avowed pro-woman stance, as evinced recently in his online #MeToo crusade condemning his rival, Star Trek Continues star and anime actor Vic Mignogna.

Profile on Medium

A 2014 profile on Medium included Jarbo among “The Bad Apples of #GamerGate,” described as a “significant number of GamerGate supporters [who] have histories of harassment, hatred and abuse.”1)

What is GamerGate?
The Gamergate controversy stemmed from a harassment campaign conducted primarily through the use of the hashtag #GamerGate. The controversy centered on issues of sexism and progressivism in video game culture. Gamergate is used as a blanket term for the controversy as well as for the harassment campaign and actions of those participating in it.
Gamergate has often been defined by the harassment its supporters engaged in. Gamergate supporters have frequently responded to this by denying that the harassment took place or by falsely claiming that it was manufactured by the victims.

About @MundaneMatt

The Medium opinion piece described Jarbo’s online activities surrounding GamerGate this way:

Twitter user @MundaneMatt was one of the first individuals to publicize the Zoe Quinn “scandal” by means of a YouTube video, which was promptly taken down by a DMCA complaint. He has been active in GamerGate since then.
Mundane Matt’s videos are resoundingly anti-woman. In one, he calls Anita Sarkeesian “a loud mouth woman who doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up.” In another (removed from public view since this article was posted, but Google cache confirms it existed) [the Google cache appears to have expired — Ed.], he questions whether the gang rape of 17-year-old Rehteah Parsons that led to her suicide even happened because she was “being flirtatious” and “egging the boys on.”

@MundaneMatt consistently expresses public viewpoints that are overwhelmingly negative and derogatory to the female gender.3)

Premiere

Peters’ premiere collaborative livestream with Jarbo and the others is scheduled first on Axanar’s YouTube channel, Peters said, since it has the largest subscriber base, Monday at 6 p.m. EDT. Then they’ll rotate the broadcast among the others’ channels.
